The plan was simple: a winter wonderland in Breckenridge.

But with the lack of snow this year, it quickly turned into more of a summer vibe. Colorado has seen one of the lowest snowpacks in recorded history—not exactly ideal for a Colorado photographer. But you adapt, you pivot… and honestly, sometimes you end up with something even better.

I might be a little biased because I know this couple personally, but Caitlin & Bo were incredible to work with. I came to them with the idea of photographing at Sapphire Point—one of my go-to locations for Breckenridge couples photography. They’ve been together for a few years and hadn’t had the best luck with photos taken by friends and family, so it felt like the perfect time to truly capture their relationship the right way.

We started the session easing into things—getting comfortable, taking a few standard shots, and just feeling each other out. But once everyone relaxed, everything clicked. They naturally brought out the best in each other. The way they made each other laugh made my job easy—and way more fun.

For this shoot, I used my Canon RP paired with the RF 70–200mm f/4 and my Canon R6 Mark II with the 15–35mm f/2.8. It’s a tried-and-true setup that gives me flexibility for both portraits and environmental shots. That said, this session definitely confirmed something I’ve been thinking about for a while—I’m ready to add a true portrait lens to the kit. The Canon RF 85mm f/1.4 L VCM has been on my radar since it dropped, and for good reason. Incredible autofocus, beautiful compression, and that creamy bokeh that just elevates everything.

But back to Caitlin & Bo.

One of the best parts of this shoot was leaning into their style. They brought a fun Colorado western vibe—cowboy hats, western jackets, steel-toe boots, and bolo ties—and somehow made it feel completely natural. We played around with different compositions and creative ideas to highlight that energy. That’s always the goal: not just taking photos, but creating something that actually feels like them.

And the ending? Easily my favorite part of the day.

We wrapped this couples photos session by running through an open meadow with Buffalo Mountain in the background during golden hour. You really can’t beat that light. Watching two people in love just fully let go—laughing, running, jumping into each other—that’s the kind of moment you can’t fake. That’s what it’s all about.
